My lines aim to be sincere and precise: in a country full of needs and crisis –not to mention a World facing crisis as well-, where each of us have to deal with this reality in different ways, there is a part of the population that always ends up more affected due to their mental condition. I’m speaking about people with mental disease. All, whether we say it or not, have someone in our families or close that suffers a mental disease, could be depression, anxiety disorder, substance abuse or even squizofrenia.
We must not forget to add, that these persons, have been historically rejected, ignored and dressed under negative stigmas that are just the right nourishment to less chances of rehabilitation and a good quality of life, many live this experience alone, misunderstood, which makes the situation become a dark nightmare, an endless labyrinth; by clinical and lived experience it has been proven that family and social support are key elements to rehab, and the support its not limited to financially, starts with gaining awareness that mental ill people are PEOPLE, ARE HUMANS and need –just as any other sick person- attention, treatment and patience.
The bottom line for this, is that its only about others, is about us, no one can say its immune to a mental disease, we are all human beings, that function in a very structured and special way, strong one day and weak as leaves in autumn other day, one day knowing and feeling safe we’ve figure things out, other day, insecure and confused and lost in anxiety…. What we doknow, its that are vulnerable, we are all in risk, knowing this should make us more sensitive towards others… less judgmental… more aware and supportive… its not a favor, its something we all deserve, Dignity.
